Strong Pain Relief
Most people are familiar with standard pain relief options such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, but sometimes these medicines may not provide enough relief on their own.
Moderate to stronger pain from migraines, dental pain, period pain, cold and flu symptoms or various other ailments can occasionally require a different approach.
Our pharmacy offers a range of stronger short term pain relief options and can provide advice on choosing the most appropriate treatment for your needs.
Anti-inflammatory gels - You can rub these anti-inflammatory gels onto the affected area and they can be safely used with paracetamol tablets.
Stronger anti-inflammatories – e.g. diclofenac - While the strongest diclofenac tablets are only available on prescription, lower dose diclofenac tablets are available over the counter.
Codeine containing tablets - Sales of these codeine containing medicines are restricted and will require a doctor’s prescription.
Combinations of paracetamol + ibuprofen - When you need stronger pain relief than paracetamol or ibuprofen on their own, this combination is able to be safely used for short term pain relief.
It’s important to remember that stronger pain relief is generally intended for short term use. If pain is severe, ongoing or keeps returning, it’s a good idea to speak with your pharmacist or doctor to investigate the underlying cause.
Some stronger medicines are not suitable for people with stomach ulcers, asthma, kidney problems, high blood pressure or certain other health conditions.
Taking more than the recommended dose can also be dangerous, particularly with medicines containing paracetamol.
Maxigesic
Maxigesic provides double-action pain relief from a wide range of pain using a patented combination of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen. This world-first specific combination was invented in New Zealand by Hartley Atkinson, pharmacologist and founder of AFT Pharmaceuticals.
Maxigesic provides temporary relief for a wide range of pain including migraine and tension headaches, muscular pain, arthritis, toothache or dental pain, period back, back pain, sore throat, tennis elbow and other pain. Maxigesic also reduces fever and inflammation.
Maxiclear
Maxiclear Day and Night Tablets and Maxiclear Day and Night + Cough Tablets are designed to provide effective relief from a range of cold and flu symptoms.
The tablets are clearly marked for day time or night time use. The day tablets help manage symptoms such as pain, fever, blocked nose and congestion while helping you stay alert throughout the day. The night tablets are formulated to help you rest more comfortably overnight.
The + Cough range also includes dextromethorphan to help relieve cough symptoms, making it a useful option when dry coughs are disrupting sleep and daily activities. Our pharmacist’s advice is required for this product.
Ethics Paracetamol & Ibuprofen
Each tablet contains Paracetamol 500mg and Ibuprofen 200mg.
Adults and children 12 years and over: Take 1-2 tablets repeated every 6 to 8 hours as necessary. Maximum of 6 tablets in 24 hours.
